Mega port to employ thousands in Plaquemines Parish

Thu Sep 03 07:32:08 CEST 2015 arnekiel

More money and business is headed to the local economy. Monday, officials announced plans for a quarter of a billion dollar offshore mega port. It will be the first of its kind in the United States. The offshore mega port should be built by late August 2016. The construction will cost about $25 million, which is all being paid for by private funding. The mega port will be called the Louisiana International Deep Water Gulf Transfer Terminal and will be built 3 miles off the coast of Plaquemines Parish near Venice. The port will house thousands of dry and liquid bulk containers. A newly formed company, LIGTT Midstream Holdings, will develop the project. Officials estimate more than 20,000 jobs will be created. State lawmakers said they do not expect the mega port to interfere with the Port of New Orleans.
